God of creation is God of the forefathers of the Judeo-Christian faith. He is the author and initiator of His family, He watched and participated in the fulfillment of their destinies. He as Father, He as Son, and He as Spirit walked with and guided the family throughout each generation. Through Him all family precepts, structures, and covenants were authored, witnessed, and established. The crucifixion and resurrection would not be different.
Let’s reference the Triune-ness of God first
It is said that St. Augustine coined the phrase, “The Old Testament is the New Testament concealed, and the New Testament is the Old Testament revealed.” Below are a few references which glimpse the Trinity within the Old Testament. God (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit) reveals Himself as triune (i.e. Elohim-plural name of the Deity) throughout all of scripture.
“WE will make man in Our image,
according to Our likeness and let
them rule….” Genesis 1:26
“Then I heard the voice of the Lord, saying,
“Whom shall I send, and who will go for US?”
“Behold, the man has become like one of US…”
“The earth was formless and void, ….
And the Spirit of God was moving over the
Surface of the water. Then God said,
“Let there be light”; and there was light.”
“And He has filled him with the Spirit of God
in wisdom, in understanding and in knowledge
and in all craftsmanship;…”
He is Holiness itself. He is Union itself. The sheer AWE of His reality. His Unity within the Trinity is so beyond our imagination, and only by His willingness to open the door to this revelation can we even begin to understand how the One and True God is triune. The mystery of the functionality of this level of unity is one that thousands have sought to comprehend. But this mystery is God’s and by faith we stand in recognition that He is God and we His family members are beneficiaries of Love’s inheritance and revelation given. We are invited to search for the answers to such a mystery.
Within the New Testament we can see the revealing of the Trinity alive among us.
“After being baptized, JESUS came up immediately from the water;
and behold, the heavens were opened, and he saw the SPIRIT of GOD
descending as a dove and lighting on Him, and behold,
a voice out of the heavens said, “This is MY beloved Son,
in whom I am well-pleased.”
I love this so much!! The absolute agreement of One God in His triune-ness was present to witness and to broadcast the Approval of His Son’s voluntary act of fulfilling the law (baptism), and waiting for the Holy Spirit to come upon Him before beginning His earthy ministry. His baptism was His initiation into what would become the most talked about 3 years of ministry ever in the history of the world.
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God,
And the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God.
All things came into being through Him, and apart from Him
Nothing came into being.
In Him was life, and the life was the
Light of men.” John 1:1-3
From before the foundations of time He is God. The Word Spoken was concealed in Genesis 1. He who was with God from the beginning of earth’s creation and then through it’s repairs. With Them, His Spirit protected and covered the earth until the it’s time of restoration (vs.2). As stated before; the evidence is shown, God works together in complete union–complete agreement–complete oneness of He who is Trinity. Their identity is not limited by the progress of humanities limited mental capacities.
Easter to some, Resurrection Sunday to others, Passover to many
It is during this season that millions stop a little bit longer to remember the work of the cross and of the resurrection power of God, which raised Jesus from death; obliterating the contract of death and giving us the power of resurrection life. An inheritance bestowed upon us through the right arm of God’s strength, Jesus Christ.
The THREE days in Joseph of Arimathea’s tomb
Jesus was within death for three days. It is important to note that these three days were not a full 72 hours, but were understood to be a part of the first day, the entire second day, and a portion of the third day. How does one come to to this understanding? One must grasp the biblical culture to process this thought. Here is a thread of scriptures to help with this process.
Luke 23:54-56 (also John 19:38-42) reveals the 1st day’s events:
“It was the preparation day, and the Sabbath was about to begin.
Now the women who had come with Him out of Galilee followed,
and saw the tomb and how His body was laid. Then they returned
and prepared spices and perfumes.”
Luke 23:56b reveals the 2nd day’s events:
“And on the Sabbath they rested according to the commandment.”
Luke 24:1-3 (also John 20:1:1) reveals the 3rd day’s events:
“But on the first day of the week, at early dawn, they came to the tomb
bringing the spices which they had prepared. And they found the stone
rolled away from the tomb, but when they entered, they did not find the
body of the Lord Jesus.”
It is apparent that through these scriptures, we learn that the culture of the day expresses the days in such a way that includes activities on a particular day, but does not necessarily include a full 24 hour period. This does not mean that Jesus was not in the grave for 3 days, it just means that it was not the full 72 hours assumed; however, He knew death for part of the first day, all of the second day, and part of the third day.
Historically this thought process is also found in the culture of Queen Esther’s day as well. In Esther 5:1 it is clear that she mentions that it was on the third day that she went before the King. Esther 4:16 does state that her instructions were for the people to fast for 3 days.
“Go, assemble all the Jews who are found in Susa, and fast for me;
do not eat or drink for three days, night or day. I and my maidens also
will fast in the same way. And thus I will go in to the king, which is not
according to the law; and if I perish, I perish.” Esther 4:16
Her “three days” we’re not a total of 72 hour stretch of fasting, but her fasting period “touched three days.” If she had waited for her three full days of fasting to be completed she would not have presented herself to her husband, the King until the fourth day. However, as stated below, she presents herself on the third day.
“Now it came about on the third day that Esther put on her royal robes
and stood in the inner court of the king’s palace in front of the king’s rooms,
and the king was sitting on his royal throne in the throne room, opposite the
entrance to the palace.” Esther 5:1
Passover’s days and nails
While I was thinking about the 3 days within the grave the thought crossed my mind that these three days were a declaration of The Triune God slamming the Gavel of LIFE’s POWER right down on the summoned grave of death. One solid earth shattering lightning strike after another–God’s arrow right into the heart of death. Three to be exact, each a representation of the GodHead and His resurrection power.
THREE- Holy Spirit
Can you hear His Gavel of Justice?
The beginning of the new week
The Holy Spirit
Can you hear His strikes of shifting time?!
In all of He who is Majestic Love and Glory–Creator Himself, They prepared the earth for the Coming of Salvation and the Reigning of His empowered family (Genesis through John the Baptist)
He who knew no sin became sin, so that all could come into REST!
The beginning of the new week
The Holy Spirit
It would be at the time of Jesus’ Ascension that the disciples would be instructed to wait in Jerusalem until the Holy Spirit came upon them, empowering them for the work of the NEW SEASON–the ingathering of the Harvest–the participation of reigning with Him.
Can you hear Him crushing defeat?!
Three lighting strikes into the heart of death’s boiling venom. That which was signed with Eden’s deadly fruit consuming moments was now demanded to submit to He who is, “The full price paid.”
Three lightning strikes announcing the completion of the poured out blood sacrifice of Jesus Christ-THE Lamb of God upon the altar-the tree of good and evil. The TREE OF LIFE completing the work of His obedience through the paying the price of the works of the tree of good and evil.
Can you hear His heart groaning for us all?
“The Lord will go forth like a warrior,
He will arouse His zeal like a man of war.
He will utter a shout, yes, He will raise a war cry.
He will prevail against His enemies.
The Blindness of the People
“I have kept silent for a long time,
I have kept still and restrained Myself.
Now like a woman in labor I will groan,
I will both gasp and pant.
“I will lay waste the mountains and hills
And wither all their vegetation;
I will make the rivers into coastlands
And dry up the ponds.
“I will lead the blind by a way they do not know,
In paths they do not know I will guide them.
I will make darkness into light before them
And rugged places into plains.
These are the things I will do,
And I will not leave them undone.”
Not only three days, but three nails. Is it possible that these weapons of evil were transformed into representation of God, His Son, and His Holy Spirit?
Two in our Bridegroom’s hands,
One a seal of the Father
One a seal of the Spirit
One in our Bridegroom’s feet
in representation of He,
Jesus whose beautiful feet were dusted with earth
His thirty-three year journey through the lands of both
Israel and Jordan.
All for the sake of every nation, every tribe, every tongue.
“How lovely on the mountains are the feet of HIM who brought good news,
who announced peace and brought good news of happiness,
who announced salvation,
and says to Zion,
“Your God reigns!”
Can you hear His heart beating for us all?!
His brutal, determined, victorious battle completed
On the altar tree
Within the borrowed tomb
Among the hordes of death
Retrieving the keys
Drawn back into life through the power of God’s resurrection
Finished and Sealed with His Love
“This is how much God loved the world: He gave his Son,
his one and only Son. And this is why: so that no one need be destroyed;
by believing in him, anyone can have a whole and lasting life.
God didn’t go to all the trouble of sending his Son merely to point an accusing finger,
telling the world how bad it was. He came to help, to put the world right again.
Anyone who trusts in him is acquitted;
John 3:16-17 (The Message Bible)
On another “third day,” the miracle at Cana of Galilee was a message of salvation itself. Jesus responded correctly to His Mom. “Woman,…. My hour has not yet come.” He was of course right. The elements represented in this miracle were representation of the birthing that would take place of Salvation–water and wine. The water and the blood of Jesus would be poured out, releasing to the earth resurrection and effervescent life of Jesus Christ and the Spirit of God.
On that long awaited day, the military, authorized by the government of Rome, took the spear of war and pierced through our Savior’s side, resulting in the proof that our Salvation had been carried to full term and in the timing of heaven’s clock was birthed for all mankind to receive. Jesus had already cried out and His sacrifice about to be accepted,
“And Jesus, crying out with a loud voice, said, “Father, into Your hands I commit My spirit.” Having said this, He breathed His last.” Luke 23:46
Witnessed by God and His Spirit and testified by Both,
“This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well-pleased.” Matthew 3:17
